Old-Timer Cabin
is located in the historic mining town of Garfield, Colorado. It is high
in the Rockies at an elevation of 9,500 feet, six miles east of the Continental
Divide. Surrounded by the San Isabel National Forest, Garfield offers views
of timbered slopes by day, and star filled skies at night. Garfield originated
as a mining town in the early 1800’s. In the later part of that century
a fire swept through town, fortunately 3 of the original buildings survived;
the schoolhouse, court house/ jail and one old log cabin, these are privately
owned. Nowadays the remains of the Lilly, Garfield & Madonna Mines can
be easily located. Also, scattered throughout the area you can find the foundations
of original mining cabins from 200 years ago. Today vacation and ski cabins
coexist with the original buildings on Garfield’s two streets.

mining boom. Back then it served as the Town Hall and Jail.
